1cupvanilla yogurt or whipped cream for serving (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish using a small amount of butter or a non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
In a spacious mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with ½ cup of brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Spread the apples evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
In the same mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, the remaining ½ cup of brown sugar, all-purpose flour, ground nutmeg, and salt. Pour in the melted butter and mix until crumbly. If using nuts, fold in the chopped walnuts or pecans.
Evenly distribute the oat mixture over the layer of apples in the baking dish, ensuring the apples are completely covered.
Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes until the apples are tender and the top is golden brown.
Once baked, remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving.
Serve the apple casserole warm, either plain or topped with vanilla yogurt or whipped cream, if desired.
Notes
For an appealing presentation, serve each portion in a lovely bowl, topped with a swirl of yogurt or whipped cream, and a sprinkle of cinnamon or chopped nuts for an extra touch.
